Mornings… A morning routine can set the tone for the rest of the day. But let’s be honest. Some days you are energized. You get up before the alarm and hit the ground running, and others mornings you are wanting to hit the snooze and think, “Oh Lord. Just give me 5 more minutes.”
What if you could design a perfect morning that led to a successful day?
One of those ah-so-amazing mornings when you take a deep breath and say to yourself, “Your rocked it!”
So, what is the big secret to an amazing morning?
A morning routine.
Yes, it is that simple! And it is actually backed by science. The fact is, a morning routine leads to a more productive day.
If you study successful people, you will notice they share similar habits and one is the morning routine.
I know you are busy. This is why you need this. The busier you are, the more you need these practices.
Author of Design Your Day, Claire Diaz Ortiz, notes the best thing you can do to be productive is to create your ideal morning routine.
I want to stress, a morning routine is a personal thing. Nearly every productivity expert recommends a morning routine, but each one is just a bit different. It isn’t so much about what is in your morning routine, just that you have one.
I understand the morning scramble. My morning used to look like the scramble that should be on your plate for breakfast! But, I decided the morning did not have to be such a crazy start to the day. I had to find a better way.
I developed these 6 habits as a morning routine for success.
- The best way to have an amazing morning is to prepare the night before.
This is my checklist:
- Backpacks ready
- Clothes out for school
- Bath-time complete
- Lunches packed
- Plan for breakfast
- Work bag ready
- Clothes out for work
- Shower done
- Smoothie and Juice prepared
- Review the calendar and my focus for the next day.
Preparing the night before frees up mornings to focus on other morning habits. It eliminates decision making in the morning. It also prevents the morning arguing about the clothes the kids are wearing and the what to pack for lunch.
- It is important to get enough sleep- every night.
Everyone has a different sleep cycle, so I am not going to tell you to wake up at 5:00 am to do a morning routine. But, I found that I love my morning, so I ensure I go to bed early.
I need at least eight hours of sleep to focus all day. Research shows the importance of sleep to your health. I recommend if you want to get up earlier to start your day, you may want to shut it down earlier at night.
- Movement is part of my morning.
I get it. You may be struggling to just get out of bed in the morning. So, I am not telling you to go to the gym and lift weights in the morning. But, simply moving to get your blood flowing and heart pumping will make you feel better. There are many benefits to morning movement, so I recommend developing a small workout routine in the morning that you enjoy.
- I hydrate right after I got out of bed and keep water with me all morning.
Water is a great way to get long-lasting energy for your day. Drinking water throughout your morning is a great way to hydrate your body. So, bottoms up to start your day!
- I prepare a nutritious breakfast and lunch for my day.
Eating protein, fruits and vegetables provides you with the necessary energy you need to face the day. I found that preparing my smoothie and juice the night before, helps me with my habit of healthy eating. Don’t skip having a nutritious breakfast to support your day.
- I practice mindful meditation and prayer each morning.
During my morning mindfulness practice, I tend to calm my mind and prepare my spirit for the day. It has helped me to gain clarity and intention which influences my life.
My morning routine sets the tone for my day. It is important to me that I am living each day with intention and focus.
I attribute much of my success to my morning routine. When I focus – on me- everyday- no matter what- I perform better. If you study successful people, you will notice they share similar habits like a morning routine.
Let me help you get started.
Pick just 1 of the habits above and start it tomorrow.
Do this for 30 days and add another.
It is best to start small and build upon your habits.
Successful women tend to have many habits in common and one of those is a morning routine. If you master a consistent morning routine, you will ensure focus on a successful day!
Share in the comments a habit you have in your morning routine that is leading you to success. This community would love to learn best practices from you!
